Auden once said, in agreement with a similar quote by Paul Valéry: "A poem is never finished; it is only abandoned." I've written a lot of poetry so far, and I'm satisfied with very little of it. However, I think there is value in releasing that which I am realistically never going to revisit.
There are over 300 poems in these collections, a lot of which are pretty mid but some of which are pretty good. I don't say that to disparage myself, but because I wrote a lot of these when I was trying to write a poem a day and while quantity does beget quality it doesn't do so immediately. I would rather display on this site my growth as a poet than pick and choose a handful of favorites. I have withheld some, but the majority of poems I wrote during that year can be found below, as well as everything I could find from outside that year which I felt was worth including for one reason or another.
I may revisit some of these, or lift lines from them to repurpose in other works, but I am abandoning these poems as they are. I don't intend to edit them further (except to fix any typos that have somehow slipped through). Anything I make of them from now on should rightfully be considered a separate, if related, piece.
I might add commentary in some form eventually. I haven't decided yet.
